Predatory Illegal Gaming Machines Are Destroying Kentucky Families

Illegal and unregulated gaming machines, commonly referred to as “gray machines,” are quickly proliferating in communities across Kentucky. These predatory machines are not located in established gaming facilities, not run by gaming professionals, and are not monitored by state regulators like legally authorized gaming venues. Instead, these illegal gaming machines are taking up shop in our corner convenience stores just down the street from our kids’ schools.

Not Monitored

Installed in uncontrolled, unmonitored and unregulated environments that are easily accessible to minors in these uncontrolled environments.

Anonymously Accessible

Easily and anonymously accessible to problem gamers, many of whom have otherwise self-excluded from gaming via state problem gambling programs and lists.

Significant Threat

Detrimental to established legal gaming in the Commonwealth and pose a significant threat to the Kentucky Lottery, charitable gaming and our signature horse industry.

Kentucky is poised to experience a rapid proliferation of illegal, unregulated, untaxed gaming v unless swift action is taken to ban them. These predatory new machines are operating illegally and siphoning away critical resources that should be going to support charitable institutions and education.

MONEY LAUNDERING

Closely linked to organized criminal activity including money laundering and drug trafficking

VIOLENT CRIME

Locations are a common target for violent crime, including smash and grab robberies in the locations where they have proliferated.

UNDERAGE GAMBLING

Lead to and encourage underage gambling because of they are easily accessible in unmonitored, unregulated locations.

The SOLUTION

KAIG supports legislation that will get these illegal gaming machines out of our communities once and for all. This legislation will clearly define the types of legally allowed, regulated and taxed gaming in Kentucky as the law intended. No more gray area. No more danger posed to our communities.

Remove illegal gaming machines from unmonitored and unregulated convenience stores, gas stations and other venues in our communities.

Allow only legally recognized, taxed and monitored gaming in Kentucky per the law.

PROPER
Use of Tax Revenue

Ensure tax revenue collected from gaming is used as the Kentucky General Assembly intended to support education through the Kentucky Lottery, the 60,000 people employed in our signature equine industry and those supported by recognized charitable organizations.
